It is with great regreat that I read on mammanpoulet.com that Niall Crowley has resigned as CEO of the Equality Authority this evening. I am saddened by this resignation, which comes the day after the world marked the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mr. Crowley has always been a very progressive and forthwright man in the area of Human rights and Equality Law on this island. His passing from the Equality Authority is untimely at a time when equality law enforcement is needed more than ever now.
More on this as it emerges. Something tells me this is a story which will run and run.
Politics.ie has the following forum post on the issue.

I for one am outrages at the dept of Justice and its minister. It has bullied and coerced the Equality Authority for pursuing its mandate in combating discrimination. Who now has any power to fight for us? The EA pursued its purpose with vigour and a determination surprising of a public service body. And all because of its main driving force, Niall Crowley.
Please show your support for the Equality Authority and Niall Crowley now by voting ‘NO’ in the irish Times poll (link below). It’ll only take about 10 secs. It closes at midnight. It is only a small thing, but unfortunately we are all pretty powerless to do anything else.

Leaving was easily the greatest contribution that Niall Crowley could have made to this State
