Swiss Cyclist. Bicycles are considered a susta...

OK I have a confession to make. I have been feeling slightly guilty about being confused as a “local cyclist” from the Austin Bike Blog’s post on the Dublin City Council plans for the removal of cars from the city centre, which I did a post of earlier this year. Those of you in the know will be aware that whilst I am supportive of cyclying endeavours I have not been technically cycling for some time now.(Apparently “I drive” ).  So with the marvellous measures introduced in this year’s Budget and with the essence and spirit of “going green”, I decided to bite the bullet and at least give the Austin Bike Blog’s post some credence – even if it was only for one day.

Before I could complete this experiment, I would need my bike – Apparently it helps. Having brought my bike home back in August i.e. to Tipperary, I had to bring it back up on Monday evening. “No bother John, twill be grand!” says I.  Got home, turned out the bleeding front wheel brakes needed to be fixed, new oil had to be found for the chain, it needed to be cleaned completly from muck and cobwebs – yes cobwebs! Brakes fixed, chain oiled. Ordeal one over. Ordeal two-getting the bike into the bleeding car. I have a big boot but it just did not want to sit in nicely. Eventually got it in and set on my merry way, up the M7 towards my apt in Dublivinia, only to find that when I got here that the bike had become so comfortable, it did not want to come out of the boot! This whole Green “endevour” had better be worth it.

Tune in tomorrow to find out how day 1 of cycling in Dublin City goes……it’s gonna be entertaining to say the least!
